I met Barry in an online men's writer's group 10 years ago - as time passed and the group dwindled, there were four of us who continued to write via email - The four of us (Ken, Dennis, Barry and myself) shared intimate stories of our lives, our perspectives of current struggles and victories, every day life, as well as the stories of our youth, our families and our friends. We actually never met face to face, but the four of us knew each other so well because we shared our souls through the written word. At one point, we discussed how the day may come when one of us might pass - we wondered how the others would know - as much as we tried to make a way to prevent that, the unthinkable happened - and on Christmas Day, I finally received the word I feared, that my dear Barry had passed in September. My heart goes out to Barry's mom, brothers, aunt and nieces and nephews, family and friends. He often shared his pride and love for you all so much. Ken, Dennis and I feel as if we know you all... We will miss the practical, wise updates from our friend in Toronto.

I just found about Barry's passing today. When I heard, I looked for the obituary in The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star but could not find it. I was glad when a mutual friend passed me along the link to this website.
The last time I saw Barry was this summer at the Art Gallery of Ontario. We enjoyed the Lawren Harris retrospective together. As a busy teacher, I usually only connected with Barry during time off, but for the past few years, we always managed a gallery visit and lunch together.
Barry was an insightful, articulate, warm friend. What Parkinson's did to his life is just a crime. He will be greatly missed.- NR

Barry and I crossed paths in Toronto for many years and shared a common experience by both being in the counselling field. Ever a gentleman and a clear thinker, my husband and I are sad to hear that he is no longer with us.

We were friends with Barry in both Toronto and Vancouver as our paths seemed to keep crossing as we ourselves crossed the country.I remember that he took us up to the Georgian Bay area and we met some of this family. Barry was always talking about his nieces and nephews and was always sweet to our son who is now 27!
We both worked in the counselling field and I know that Barry was well respected for his care and wisdom.
Thank you to whomever called to tell us. I was too stunned to really note who it was.
I presume Barry is singing and dancing his way into the next place, minus all the challenges of Parkinsons.
He will be missed.

Please accept my sympathy on Barry's passing. We met only three or four years ago at the Men's Book Club at The 519 Community Centre. I always looked forward to Barry's contribution to the discussion of the book. Insightful, warm, interesting and sometimes with a quiet humour that really was valued in the group. Then we were both members of a supportive writing group and I learned of his great talent as a writer. Barry's insight, kindness, whimsy and beautifully constructed imagery were not only wonderful to hear when he read aloud, but stayed with me. I share in your loss.

I would like to ad my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Barry, I was in the same supportive writing group as Barry, as well in the Mature Men's Bookclub at THE 519
Barry was able to write beautifully, and knew how to express himself in words, we have some of his stories published in "From the Heart" He once asked me to read one of his stories at an opening of the booklet, I was extremely honoured to do so.
Barry was an interesting contributor to our Bookclub he had great insights into life and into the book we were reading and discussing at the time.
A few weeks ago we ran into each other on the street, Barry as always was very pleasant and he told me he was doing fine, even though his movement seemed restricted, with the same smile he was blessed with and those beautiful expressive eyes, little did I know that this was the last time I would see him here.
My heart goes out to the remaining family members, unfortunately I cannot make it to the funeral, but Barry will be remembered by me as a generous loving and interesting person with a great sense of humour he did not allow his disease to interrupt daily living..Rest in peace Barry!

Barry was a really wonderful gentleman. Each day seemed like a brand new day for Barry as he would make his way to the Croissant Tree coffee shop to meet with his friends. I deeply admired his will to keep going and to overcome several great difficulties. I shall miss his presence and his wonderful smile.
Farewell Barry. Jamieson John Jensen.

My condolences to Barry's family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Barry was a top notch professional in his career field. He was also an intelligent kind, caring and thoughtful member of the Second Cup coffee social group and will be missed by his many friends there. We are shocked and saddened to hear of his sudden passing. It won't be the same without him there.
Rest in Piece kind Mr. Brown you are with the Angels now.

Henry and I were very sad to learn the news of Barry s death. We have always enjoyed his good company, thoughtful and witty conversation and friendship. We especially remember with fondness our trips together to Amalfi and Provence. We are currently on another trip with some of the same group in Croatia. Barry was a kind and gentle man and a good travelling companion.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, whom he often spoke of lovingly.
We shall miss him.
Sincerely,
Henry Wright and Richard Davidson

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Barry's family and friends. Barry was a friend of our sister/sister in law in Toronto. She passed away 3 weeks ago and Barry attended her Celebration of Life service. Although we had only met him a couple of times, Anne spoke very highly of him. Praying God will give you strength and comfort at this time.
