To Joan and Bev and families. I am sorry to be late with my condolences, but wanted you to know I well remember working for your father and mother. I thought the world of Les and Joy. They gave me my first job in Wiarton. Arlene Boulter was a great gal and I worked lots with her also. Wonderful memories to have. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Marion Williamson

Just a note of reflection on my pleasant memories of your Mom and Dad (Joy and Les) during their restaurant years in downtown Wiarton. Having a quick take-out burger was always a treat as I was able to run across the street from my Mom's ladies wear, Four Season Styles, order the burger, wait 10 minutes and then run back, pay and grab up my lunch. Ahhh, those were the days. Your Mom and Dad were absolutely wonderful, professional and genuine people. I treasure those times to this day.
Sincerely, Mary Lynn (Greene) Standen

My sincere condolences to Les's family, and friends.
It was a pleasure to meet him few years ago, and learn of his trumpet playing time with the Owen Sound City Band.
My thoughts are with you at this sad time,
John Dickson

Uncle Les was quite a fine man, who made a difference in my life. I always knew that he was one person that I could count on, if I needed help or support. I also knew that although his caring was unconditional, it came with expectations. He expected that I would do my best, that I would be honest and forthright. Both he and my dad expected that if you worked for someone, you did the job their way. I learned much about being a good employee from Uncle Les. I learned also about extending a helping hand when you know someone is having difficulty. I appreciate what he taught me and what he stood for, in his life.

Sad to hear of Les's passing...I have so many wonderful memories of the lunch counter, bowling alley, men's wear store and most importantly, his leadership of the town band

During our "growing up years" many of my Brothers & I got our initial start on the road to "working" for a living by setting up pins at the bowing alley; and a good start it was by Les cementing into us the good things in life that we were also being taught at home. Things that have in many ways these days gone by the wayside, such as manners; responsibility; respect; the value of a dollar earned; and many other life lessons....including how to jump out of the way of a fast moving ball that some bowler impatiently had thrown !! Les always stood behind his staff, he was tough....but he was fair, and a man of his word !! We earned our money, and then gave it back to Les by going up stairs & renting a pool table for a few games, as that is were our friends would wait for us as they had no money for a table....I do believe that Les had this planned...ha ha. Although I haven't seen Les for a number of years, his name always comes up around our family gatherings, as my older siblings & I reminisce our "growing up" days at a well known & wonderful spot on Berford Street called Allen's Bowling Alley !!!
Our deepest sympathy to all his Family;
He was a great man, and he will be spoken of highly
around many a kitchen table for years to come !!
Sincerely;
Andy & Linda Smart.

Joan and Bev and families,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Always had a soft spot in my heart for Uncle Les as he and Aunt Joyce gave me my first summer job. He had high expectations of his staff and as such demonstrated a good work ethic and professionalism, which I tried to emulate in my career. I have fond memories of family visits when I was a little girl. Thank you for sharing him with me..
