Obituary of Harvey Gerald "Gerry" Walker
Peacefully with family by his side in Chesley, on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Gerry Walker of Allenford in his 89th year. Survived by his wife Mae Walker (Tompkins) of Owen Sound. Father of Carolyn, Susan, and his devoted canine companion Audrey. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Robert & Carrie Walker; brother Allan Walker (Viola) and sisters Mary Merriam (Harold), Muriel Aiken (Ross) and Ruth McLeod (Ian); as well as two nephews Bradley and Steven Aiken.
A beef farmer, Gerry had a curiosity about the natural world and a particular affection for dogs and horses. He was a sawyer of logs, a maker of maple syrup, a prankster, a storyteller and a wizard at mental math. Fond of music from the big band era, he was also an excellent whistler. Gerry struggled with the ravages of dementia in his final years.
As per his wishes, a private family interment will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara in the spring. Arrangements entrusted to the DOWNS AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Hepworth.
Gerry often brought home animals in need of assistance; mallard ducklings from a broken nest, a baby groundhog which had lost its mother, a blue heron, a young owl he found in the barn, as well as an assortment of dogs and horses, and he had a special spot in his heart for young children. In lieu of flowers expressions of remembrance to an animal rescue organization or a children's charity of your choice would be appreciated.
