Obituary of Ruth Brady

Ruth Margaret Emma Pringle-Brady died on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock.  It is not lost on her family that Ruth left us on Victoria Day.  Mom was a steadfast monarchist.

Ruth was born at home in Allenford on June 5, 1936 to Grace and Ernie Pringle.  Ruth married Robert Gregory Brady (predeceased) in 1956.

Ruth was Mom to Bob (predeceased), Ann Steen of Dundas, Jean Carson and her husband Ross of Thamesford, Scott and his wife Kathy of Guelph, John and his wife Lisa of Allenford and Pat Brady-Blum and her husband David of Kitchener.  She raised her kids in Toronto, Vancouver and Allenford.  All Ruth ever wanted was to be a Mom and she was happiest hanging out with her kids on the beaches of Tofino, while Greg worked in Vancouver.  Ruth was Grama to Jennifer and her husband Nate, Kailey and her husband Tyler, Liam, Erin and her husband Gabe, Reid and his wife Michelle, Payden and his wife Amy, Arlee, Kory and Colin and Great Grama to Lauren, Kate, Norah, Adam, Natalie, Jack, Clara, Raegan, Lenora, Kit and Kirby.  Special Aunt Ruth to her Pringle nieces and nephews.  Ruth remained a loving mother-in-law to Kathy Lammie.

On June 1, 1953 a 16 year old Ruth Pringle was one of 50 girls selected from across Canada to witness the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in England funded by the Weston Family.  Mom cherished the memories and many friendships she made.  Quarterly zoom calls continued that kept the bonds strong between the remaining Weston Girls. The Bruce County Museum in Southampton now holds, in their archives, her memorabilia from her 8-week trip.

After returning from her adventure in Europe, Ruth immediately entered the nursing program at the then Owen Sound General & Marine Hospital.  She loved nursing and spent a good part of her career in Owen Sound returning to her roots at the General & Marine Hospital then moving to the new Owen Sound Hospital.  Ruth retired in 1995 as the first Discharge Planner for the hospital.  She touched so many lives during her career as her family found out in later years.

In 2014 Ruth was diagnosed with dementia.  While a tremendous shock at first, Ruth continued to enjoy fun times with friends, her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  With the support of her family, Ruth connected with the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce and took any and all programs on offer including:  This Somebody is Me and More than Meets the Eye, a photography exhibition which had a public launch at the Tom Thompson Art Gallery.  Ruth met so many tremendous friends that both supported and encouraged her to continue learning and loving life.

Family and friends are invited to share memories at St. Andrew's Church Hall, Hepworth on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Arrangements entrusted to the DOWNS AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Hepworth.  Interment Zion Cemetery.  Expressions of remembrance to the Alzheimer Society Grey Bruce or the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence may be sent to the family through www.downsandsonfuneralhome.com
